This year the dynamic global arts organization Brouhaha International teamed up with the Unity Theatre at #1 Hope place to commence a week filled with culturally diverse pieces of art and performances from artists across the globe leading up to the Liverpool Carnival

As part of the European Volunteer Service (EVS) A program funded by the European Commission it enables young people from the ages 17-30 to live in another country for a period of 6-12 months working in a non-profit organization, the aim of the EVS is to improve the social and cultural skills of themselves whilst interacting and and encountering different cultures.

Brouhaha International led a 3 month program via the EVS program with emerging artists such as dancers, musicians, street performances artists, acrobats and digital artists to carry out workshops throughout schools and community programs in the City of Liverpool based on exploring the concept of cultural identity, heritage and diversity the volunteers range in countries such as:
Brazil
Cuba
Jamaica
South Africa
Trinidad and Tobago
United States of America/ Turtle Island
Zambia

With the theme of this year’s festival entitled ‘Roots’, it brought together a certain oneness amongst each participant involved with the festivities of the weeks performances such as launching critical conversations about collaborative performances and the challenges and successes that diverse artists, communities and art organizations face across the world. Apart from the EVS participants Brouhaha International also extended the invitation to fellow arts organizations from around the world such as:
Italy
Martinique
The Netherlands
Spain
Portugal
South Africa
Trinidad and Tobago
This turned out to be the perfect precursor to kick off the Liverpool Carnival Celebration!
