In 2016 young carnival artists from across the UK got together at our New Voices in Carnival Conference, where we tasked them with coming up with the theme for 2017. The result was ‘Many Voices One Song’, which calls for solidarity between communities in times of change when some of those in power would gladly see the rolling back of human rights and the mainstreaming of anti-immigration, anti-Islam, homophobic extremism, validating hate speech and encouraging discrimination and hatred. Our response is to challenge the direction of political travel, delivering events that bring people together from different backgrounds and perspectives to create and experience excellent art. We aim to deliver cultural events which encourage people to celebrate the richness and diversity of a multicultural, multi-faith contemporary British society.
